It's Barnacle Time!!!
Come and join local artist Sayuri Sasaki Hemann to stitch pieces of felt to create clusters of barnacles together at the Fountain Lobby, UIHC!!!! Drop by anytime between 10-2pm to learn how to make barnacles by piecing felt-pieces using the "blanket stitch", or just enjoy the community making. The community barnacle cluster made at this workshop will be contributed to the Possibility Tank for the Mind Travelers' Aquarium exhibit at Fountain Lobby, UIHC, which runs through November 25th. The Possibility Tank is an evolving participatory portion of the Mind Travelers' Aquarium project, where it begins empty at the beginning of the exhibit, but becomes populated by creatures made in various workshops held within the UIHC and larger Iowa City community.
Support for Mind Travelers' Aquarium project is provided by Iowa Arts Council, a division of Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, National Endowment for the Arts, and Iowa City Public Art Program.
Free. Open to public. No barnacle making experience necessary!! We will be using needles, activities suitable for ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by adult.
